Nepal comprises of over 41 percent of youths out of their total population. This age group is the backbone of Nepal and their participation is extremely important in every aspect of our society. It is of the utmost importance that these youths be guided and led to explore their path in life and set goals for themselves with a vision for their nation. With this, Nepal Youth Council (NYC) has been actively working on the thematic areas of Youth for Election, Youth Entrepreneurship, Youth for SDGs, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion, Youth for ICT, and Youth for Environment and Leadership. NYC has been working actively for the development of youth personality as well as boosting their self-confidence by providing various training to enhance diverse skills. To make youths independent, NYC for a long time, has been investing in youths to equip them with the needed skill-sets. National Youth Conference 2023, with this year’s theme of Youth in Entrepreneurship, Youths for SDGs, Youths for Media and Digital Literacy, Youths for Ethical and Transparent Governance, and Youths in Civic Engagement and Election, will be happening from 9-12 August in Kathmandu with an aim to bring together 220 youths from across Nepal under the same
roof for 3 days. The major motive of the conference is to enhance the knowledge and skills of the youth so that they can take the leadership role for the betterment of Nepal.
Nepal Youth Council believes that upon the completion of the 2023 conference, the participants will be able to move beyond a process-oriented understanding of technology and apply digital resources creatively in their original work. They will be able to participate in community activities to take political as well as nonpolitical actions to improve the conditions for others. They will be provided with the ability to recognize commercial opportunities, self‐esteem, knowledge, and skills to act on them. They will be understanding more about the Sustainable Development Goals and its various agendas. And finally, they will be equipped with the knowledge of ethical and transparent governance. Nepal Youth Council is convinced that the conference will recognize the youths as an undeniably effective force in the mainstream of development in Nepal.

Nepal Youth Council (NYC) has been actively working on the thematic areas of Youth for Election, Youth Entrepreneurship, Youth for SDGs, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion, Youth for ICT, and Youth for Environment and Leadership. With the slogan “Youths are the Torchbearers of Change,” NYC Nepal has successfully organized various events on the issue of awareness of the rights and responsibilities of youths including the seven National Youth Conferences held in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 in Kathmandu. NYC 2020 and NYC 2021 were organized virtually due to the COVID pandemic. In addition to that, the “SDGs Festival 2018” in various cities across 7 provinces in association with UNDP Nepal, and Asian Youth Summit 2019 in Kathmandu collaborating with MasterPeace International were also successfully completed. Recently, NYC has also organized a Seed Fund implementation program on “Youth Engagement on Climate Change Initiatives” in the year 2021, where 7 best ideas were selected out of 21 ideas presented from all seven provinces. The selected ideas will be provided with Rs. 50,000 each by Coca-cola Bottlers Nepal (Terai) Limited.
The NYC Nepal team is leveraging information technology as a tool to continuously motivate youths in the field of tourism, agriculture, youth entrepreneurship, rule of law, and many more. NYC Nepal not only provides an equal opportunity to every youth for addressing various problems but also provides opportunities to interact with professionals and experts to localize the SDGs focusing on youth empowerment and capacity development. It has already won the trust of donors, supporters, and partner organizations and has been continuously supported by these trustees in many youth engaging programs. NYC Nepal has successfully partnered with the different levels of the Government of Nepal, Inter-Governmental Organizations, International Organizations, Civil Society organizations, I/NGOs, the private sector, academic institutions, various media, community organizations, and many more.

PARTICIPANTS
In total, 220 youths representatives from all over Nepal will attend the #Conference. The conference will house 154 youths (one female and one male) from all 77 districts of Nepal. In addition to that, 66 youths (gender-balanced) will be selected from the disabled, Dalits, diverse ethnic groups, minority communities, and LGBTQ community to ensure inclusion. In case a district does not have a balanced representation of a female and a male, efforts will be made to identify at least three alternate candidates to ensure equal representation.
CRITERIA FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE CONFERENCE
📢 Youth of age 18-35 years
📢 Should be involved in social activities in their home district or be involved in some entrepreneurship activity, or be studying in the same district
📢 Should not be associated with any political party
📢 Should be able to present at least three evidences of activities that they have conducted for social transformation

Application forms will be made available to interested participants from the Nepal Youth Council’s official website which can be downloaded or filled online. The participants must submit a completed application form by 20th July 2023 to Nepal Youth Council at [email protected]. The instructions for depositing the application fee of Rs. 1,111 will be available on the application form as well as on the website.

Climate Action
Youths can play a significant role in promoting climate action in Nepal by using technology to raise awareness and promote eco-friendly lifestyles. Nepal is vulnerable to the effects of climate change, and youths can use digital platforms to provide information on how to reduce carbon emissions and adapt to a changing climate.
The Nepal Youth Council can leverage information technology to develop online campaigns, social media engagement, and mobile apps that deliver information and tips on reducing carbon footprints. They can also use technology to monitor climate patterns and provide early warning systems for vulnerable populations. Additionally, digital platforms can be used to promote renewable energy and sustainable agriculture, contributing to Nepal's efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.
Gender Equality
Despite advances in recent years, Nepal still confronts hurdles in achieving gender equality. Youths can use information technology to raise awareness about gender equality's importance, the harmful effects of gender-based violence, and the need for increased female representation in politics and decision-making positions.Online classes, mobile apps, and social media can all be used to disseminate information.
The Nepal Youth Council can use IT to promote gender equality and initiatives to combat violence against women. They can create digital platforms that encourage women's participation in decision-making and provide information on women's rights and gender-sensitive reporting. ICT can also be used to monitor and report incidents of violence against women and girls.
Youths in Election
Youths can leverage information technology to enhance the electoral process in Nepal, promote democracy, and ensure free and fair elections. Using IT, they can educate the public on the voting process, rules, and regulations governing elections, and prevent errors that result in invalid ballots.
The Nepal Youth Council can also use digital platforms to encourage youth involvement in elections, with information on voter registration, voting procedures, and candidate platforms. Social media and other digital tools can increase voter participation and decrease invalid ballots while promoting transparency and fairness in the electoral process. By becoming more informed about civic issues, engaging in discussions, and mobilizing support for causes they care about, Nepalese youths can improve their participation in the electoral process and promote election integrity.
Good Governance
Youths in Nepal have the potential to promote good governance and fight corruption using Information Technology (IT). One way they can do this is by adopting digital payment methods to increase transparency in transactions and reduce the circulation of currency. Online platforms can also be created for reporting corruption and promoting transparency in government activities.
Social media can be utilized to raise awareness of these issues and encourage public participation in government activities. Good governance is crucial for economic development and social stability in Nepal. The Nepal Youth Council can utilize IT to enhance good governance by creating digital platforms that provide data on government services, budgeting, and public procurement. They can also use technology to monitor the performance of public institutions, combat corruption, and promote accountability and transparency. E-governance and digital payments can also be promoted to reduce opportunities for corruption and enhance service delivery. By providing access to information, promoting transparency, and encouraging public participation, technology can support ethical and transparent governance in Nepal.
Youth Entrepreneurship
Technology has opened up new avenues for entrepreneurship, and Nepalese youth can utilize it to start and grow their businesses. Digital platforms such as e-commerce websites, social media, and mobile applications can help entrepreneurs expand their consumer base and reduce their operating costs. In Nepal, young entrepreneurs are driving economic growth by launching new ventures.
IT can play a crucial role in promoting these enterprises by facilitating online marketing and e-commerce. Social media can help entrepreneurs connect with new customers, while IT platforms such as e-sewa, Khalti, and e-payments can support secure online transactions. The Nepal Youth Council can leverage information technology to encourage youth entrepreneurship by creating digital platforms that offer information on starting a business, obtaining financing, and selling products. They can also develop online marketplaces that connect young entrepreneurs with customers and suppliers. Furthermore, ICT can be used to monitor and report on the performance of businesses led by youths, ensuring they have access to the support they need to succeed.
Youth for SDGs
SDGs comprise a global agenda of 17 goals and 169 targets aimed at eradicating poverty, protecting the environment, and promoting prosperity for all. In Nepal, technology can play a vital role in achieving these objectives by enhancing access to education, healthcare, and clean water, thereby reducing inequality. The Nepal Youth Council can contribute significantly to executing the SDGs through the use of information technology.
They can create online platforms, mobile apps, and social media campaigns to raise public awareness and inspire action toward achieving these goals. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can also be employed to monitor progress toward the SDGs and provide real-time feedback to the government, civil society, and development partners. Furthermore, the Nepal Youth Council can advise the government on the effective use of IT to implement the SDGs and track their progress.
